Client of the Month

Borough Jeep

HOLDCOM is proud to recognize Borough Chrysler Jeep as our Client of the Month for July 2007. In business for over 80 years, this 5-star dealership, located in Wayne, New Jersey, prides itself on their staff of experienced professionals and “no sales gimmicks” philosophy. How does Borough Chrysler Jeep view their nearly-20-year association with HOLDCOM? Borough’s Vice President/General Manager, Henry Hagedoorn states, “They are truly a benchmark for their industry, and we have enjoyed our business relationship for many years.” HOLDCOM’s Message-On-Hold programs allow Borough Chrysler Jeep to constantly update the information they provide to their callers, especially when it comes to promoting new vehicles, announcing specials, and reminding customers of maintenance services. This valuable marketing service, combined with their brand-new website, helps Borough Chrysler Jeep effectively communicate with their customers, even when they’re not speaking with me directly. It has been a pleasure working with Mr. Hagedoorn and the staff at Borough Chrysler Jeep for all these years. We look forward to many more.

Voice Over Spotlight

Voice Over - TanyaThis month we’re proud to shine the Voice Talent Spotlight on our authentic British voiceover, Tanya.

Tanya first entered the world of voiceover work by going the direct route. She went to her local radio station and asked for an audition. After reading her first script, she knew she had found a new and exciting career. She learned the tricks of the trade on the job, and twenty years later is still happy about the choice she made.

For Tanya, the best part of the job is being able to live in a “fantasy world”. The fact that she can be a fairy princess one day, or a scary witch the next, and be fully convincing to her listening audience is a natural high. Considering Tanya has enjoyed a fairly illustrious past managing a famous British punk band, she enjoys that her voiceover career provides her workdays with lots of diversity. Lucky for HOLDCOM, Tanya’s husband found our website, prompting her to submit an audio demo. Soon after, she was invited to become a member of our voice talent roster…and the rest is history.

We are fortunate to have someone like Tanya – who once had three national television ads running simultaneously in the U.K. – on our team. And for you Anglophiles, you may be interested to know that Tanya was the voice of a famous British tourist attraction.

HOLDCOM is thrilled to have a voice talent like Tanya, recording various clients’ scripts from the other side of the pond.

Time For the Connected to UN-PLUG
Technology is foe to stress-free vacation.

Is it even possible to take a real vacation? While today's gadgets are friends to workers, they can also be the enemy. Adding even more stress to a supposed rest period, technology has become a double edge sword, since workers can be reached anytime, anywhere. This defeats the whole purpose of getting away and spending quality time with family and friends.

"You need more time to fix burnout," explains Joe Robinson, author of Work To Live: The Guide to Getting a Life. “You have to be cut off from a stressor for a sufficient amount of time to give your mind and body a break. And you have to allow two weeks for your body to rebound.”

Vacation

What’s the solution? As your vacation approaches, put in some extra time at work in advance to get things under control. Allow the office to only contact you in an emergency and enjoy your vacation. You will return recharged and ready to go, resulting in a happier and more productive employee.

Happy Left-Handers Day!

International Left Hand Day

Join us on August 13th as we celebrate International Left-Handers Day. Acknowledge the 13% of the population who are left handed, as we pay homage to that unsung minority. (Though oddly enough HOLDCOM employs almost 50% lefties.) Apparently it is not easy being lefty. From smudging your paper when you write to the often lamented scissor issue, there is much to overcome. Throughout the world the notion that left equals bad is prevalent. The French word, "gauche" means "left", not to mention "not tactful" or "crude". The English word for "sinister" is derived from the Latin for “left-hand side.” And nobody wants "two left feet" or being "stuck in left field".

From stick shifts to toilet paper dispensers, we live in a right-handed world Statistics show that males are one and a half times more likely to be lefty than females. They are also more likely to be schizophrenic, alcoholic, delinquent and dyslexic. On the flip side, researchers in France recently found that a disproportionate number of left handed athletes thrive in sports involving one on one contact. Baseball gave us Babe Ruth, tennis brought John McEnroe, and Pele is long considered the greatest soccer player in the world.

Happy Left-Handers Day!

There are many impressive and influential lefties throughout history. From Michelangelo and Leonardo daVinci to Ben Franklin and Isaac Newton, the list continues with Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Seinfeld, Queen Elizabeth, Paul McCartney, Robert DeNiro, and W.C. Fields who said it best, “If the left side of your brain controls the right side of your body, and the right side of your brain controls the left side of your body, then left-handed people must be the only ones in their right minds.” So join George Bush and Bill Clinton as they celebrate on August 13th, which happens to be the birthday of one of the most infamous lefties, Fidel Castro. Not to call him a dictator, but another lefty and birthday boy is our very own President, Neil Fishman. Embrace your inner Southpaw (Sandy Koufax) and raise your glass (obviously in your left hand) in a salute to lefties.

Discovering Audio

It seems as if other companies have discovered how professionally recorded voice prompts can add an extra polish to their corporate image: (Example)

When the average person quests across the Internet searching for information about a corporation and they arrive at the corporation’s home page, one would think that their mission would then be completed...

Backpacking thru Central America

Journey of Hope for Lupus

Kudos to Robert, our Spanish voice over talent, who will be spending the last two weeks of August backpacking through Central America on a “Journey of Hope for Lupus.”

Backpacking thru Central America

Lupus is a debilitating and potentially fatal autoimmune disease capable of damaging virtually any part of the body. Despite its enormous health implications, lupus remains a dangerously under-recognized and under-appreciated health issue. If you wish to support The Lupus Foundation of America and their mission to find the cause and cure for Lupus click here.

More Interesting Facts:
  • The average American is working one month (160 hours) more each year than a generation ago.

  • 33 % of workers say they will be checking in with the office while on vacation.

  • 22 % of workers say their bosses expect them to stay in touch while away from work, up from 16% in 2004.

  • One-in-ten workers report they check in with the office while on vacation at least once a day.

  • On the flip side, 35% of workers say they feel still stressed about work even when they are on vacation.

TargetSpot

Target Spot

Hits the Bullseye

In a perfect world, advertisers would be able to target their core audience and hit all their demographics every time, and it wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. TargetSpot allows the smaller business that can’t afford “traditional” advertising to enter this medium. As the internet allows more people to tune in to the radio through their computer, it also opens a potential advertising gold mine. TargetSpot is looking to fill that niche with their current launch, teaming with CBS Radio and others. Read more about their success in a future HOLDCOM VOICE.
